Baax Na
A Study Abroad Blog in Senegal
Asalaam Alaikum!
Baax na. My blog name and a Wolof expression that means "it's good." And, it is all good during my semester abroad in Senegal! Follow me along on this blog to hear about my culture shocks and culture revelations, and live vicariously while scrolling through my slideshow of beautiful Dakar.
I am a University of Maryland, College Park sophomore and Early Childhood/EC Special Education major who spent my spring semester in Senegal. Right now, I am back in America after four incredible months in West Africa. For the first two months of my adventure in Senegal I lived in the Mermoz area of Dakar and took education, language, development, and culture classes at the West African Research Center (WARC). Then, for the second two months I lived in Nioro du Rip, a rural village in the Kaolack region of Senegal where I interned at the school Adja Penda Ba.
I am now using this blog to analyze my Western world through the eyes of someone who had the privilege to live in a very different world for a few months. The 'Home' page features all my posts, but my posts are also divided into 'Post-Senegal' and 'From Senegal' in the menu on the top of this page.
